Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary thing for a peaceful, and sustainable world. Gender equality is something we face every single day, do women really get the same rights as men? The answer is no, because ever since the world began, men have been the ones who went to work and came home to dinner on the table and a clean house, and women get paid 75 cents when men will get paid 1 dollar. Even for us teenagers at school, the boys are in a higher power, they feel like they can judge us girls and call us names and expect nothing to happen to them, which is true. nothing will happen to them, no one will address it, they won’t be told off and they will just go off and do it again. That’s why when we have PE classes, the boys are usually the first to volunteer and pick the teams, and us girls will get left for last because we feel like we don’t have the power to stick up for ourselves or argue back. Us as girls in no way whatsoever should feel like this, if we don’t speak up or do something about it we will be overpowered for the rest of our lives. Why don’t we get paid the same for doing the same exact job? To be honest, there’s no answer, and so unethical. According to the United Nations, more girls are going to school in 3rd world countries, fewer girls are forced into early marriage, more women are serving in parliament and positions of leadership, and laws are being reformed to advance gender equality. Which is amazing!! This is the type of news we want to hear every day, and slowly day by day we can make a change, but unfortunatly its not what we hear everyday, here are some facts from the Australian Human Rights Commission: – Females make up just over half of the Australian population!
– On average, Australian women have to work an extra 56 days a year to earn the same pay as men for doing the same job.
– More than one in three Australian females has experienced physical or sexual violence in her lifetime and one in two experiences sexual harassment.
Is that really what we want for the women of our generation, to have to work more to get equal pay? To experience sexual harrasment or physical violence? No women should feel that and should never get put through that, hat could compleatly ruin her for the rest of her life, the feeling of vulnerability or taken advantage of.
